Animated works from Spain, Brazil and Uruguay have been featured on the 8th Quirino Awards, the premiere celebration of the Ibero-American Animation.
Spain’s David Baute played the most with his debut Black Butterflies, a local weather drama with immigration-themed themes that has been awarded at the Annecy, Goyas and Platino Awards. Brazil's “Brothers of Jorel” won the biggest sequence in its fifth season, while Uruguay's Alfredo Soderguit introduced the biggest introduction to “Capybaras”, a fable for prejudice and friendship.
Tenerife-born director Baute is recognized for her documentary background, an extensive story of three girls in a completely different corner of the world, each of whom is under pressure from the local weather disaster. The feature builds on Baute’s 2020 DOC Local Weather Exodus and has already won awards at the Goya and Platino Awards. “Black Butterfly”, co-written with Yaiza Berrocal, was produced by the Spanish Ikiru movies and Tinglado movies, in collaboration with Anangu Grup in Panama.
Brazil's beloved “Brothers of Jorell” took the biggest order in its fifth season, the second Quirino win with a preliminary nod in 2019. Created by Juliano Enrico, created by Juliano Enrico, produced by Copa Studio in Rio de Janeiro, and collaborated with Warner Bros. Discovery of Boy younger Youunders the Byerssprows exploration.
Uruguay won the best short film for Alfredo Soderguit's Capybaras, a story that deals with prejudice and friendship through the family experience of displaced Chili Peppers. Soderguit, known for his finalist finalists in the 2022 Quirino Awards, tailored the film from his personal illustration guide. Manufacturing is with Palermo Estudio of Uruguay, along with its partners in France and Chile.
Additional winners include José Prats of Spain, the BAFTA’s “Adiós” nominee, and the winner of the same award from Annie’s; Jesica Bianchi of Argentina used the animated music video “My Method”; and the film “47” of Zombie Studio in Brazil received the largest commissioned animation and visible improvements in each.
In different classes, Spain’s Nomada Studio received the largest online game animation for “Neva”, while Franco-Spanish’s joint production “Paradise Buffet” received the largest animation design. Spain's “Gilbert” also received honors for sound design and music.
The jury features Ben Kalina (USA), Carolina López Caballero (Spain), Helena Nylander (SVT, Sweden), Daniel Bruson (Brazil) and Leyla Formoso (Brime Leisure Group, France, France) in a global jury.
In the course of the Gala Lope Afonso, Vice President of the Tenerife Council, who sponsor the Awards by Tenerife Tourism, introduced the Quirino Lab, a brand new coaching and dialogue platform set to launch in November 2025. Constructing upon the Futures Lab initiative, this new endeavor goals to deep collaborative methods throughout Ibero-American animation.

Industrial influence or Arthouse Cred?
Quirino completely attracted the big guys, which gave Cannes and Annecy nothing, a breath and area to build quality relationships in a few days. Trade Voice noted that the year is biased towards most of their tasks, some involving their lack of industrial muscle to win the victory of major distributors or streaming media. Others are happy to see the feeling of so many tasks pushing boundaries and they may fall into a new audience craving for originality. The trick is now stable. Films like Pablo Berger's “Robot Target” show that marrying audiences is feasible, but there is too much skew to the unique segment, while storytellers threaten the attractiveness of the world. While Arthouse animation may find professional houses, distribution models just don't exist, but are unlikely to appear soon.
Position, position, position
The Canary Islands now have 10 animation studios, as well as one of the world’s largest tax incentives, but with many Quirino executives confused, expertise wants to be bigger than studios and discounts. You may not live in a studio, and nonetheless, these islands are going to lean towards short-term tourism, and finding housing with long-distance expertise is still a possible bottleneck. On-site infrastructure is crucial to accelerate development. While many people who try it won't return, it's definitely worth the different hassle to figure out the upside space of lifestyle.
Trump 2.0: An uninvited visitor
No one needs to live on President Trump, but his poke, just before that, in making taxes overseas, stretched here every espresso break. As the Canary Islands offer many of the richest discounts on Earth, the range of concerns is not large for the ripple effects of uncertainty. Buyers are crafty, the animation lasts long, the upfront price is too high, and hope that predictable flooring will flourish. Even a wandering Trump social media, the proposed motion can play a swing role by shaking the stack with fragile co-raisers.
Discovery function
The futures lab and girls in each animation class confirmed the producer’s desire for transparency, and the filmmakers debated their challenges. “We asked them to replicate the problems they sacrificed before their careers; also at the private stage, attached to their functions, these problems make them butterflies inside the abdomen.” Silvina Cornillànn, director of Qurino Awards, advises choose Girl in an animation party. There is comfort among comrades. “Often, if you try to go so deep, some people may pull again, but they are stunned, they listen, they are already moved.” She concluded.
Ibero – Large gatherings in the United States
One of the biggest quiet wins of all Quirinos? The pure geographical expansion of visitors. The filmmakers, producers and executives have not only come here from Spain and Portugal, but from every corner of Latin America, which gives the actual Ibiro-American weight. And put Argentina Cornill õn in the helms of the Spanish, most pageants send an optimistic message. This is the legacy of the organizers' ongoing efforts and shows that Quirino is already mature than just regional display cabinets. Now, it’s one of many key platforms in the world of Ibero-American animation, collectively typing concepts. The collaboration continues to flourish, with quite a few planned fruits over the past few years bringing the best of the missions to the pitching table in the legendary environment of the past.
