Johnny Rodriguez was the first Hispanic star in music in all countries and recognized “My Thumb to Mexico” and “This Is the Way of Love” as a 73-year-old.

Rodriguez died Friday after entering hospice. His daughter, Aubry Rodriguez, introduced his dying message on social media, noting that he was surrounded by family. “Dad is not only a legendary musician whose artistry has touched tens of millions of people around the world, but another very much loved husband, father, uncle and brother, whose passion, humor and compassion constitute the lives of all those who know him,” she wrote. “We are very grateful for the help of the influx of feelings and followers, colleagues and good friends during this time of grief.”

Rodriguez has been in his career, opening the way for Hispanic musicians in the Country House. He found success on the charts because of his career beginning, earning six first songs on the billboards’ national song rankings and 20 Prime 10s. He also received honors from the National Conservatory of Music and was nominated for the CMA Award and was selected for the Music Corridor in Texas in 2007.

Rodriguez was born in Sabinar, Texas in 1951. He moved to Nashville at the age of 21, where he auditioned for the place where Mercury information was obtained before being signed to release his 1972 breakthrough singles “Go Me by (If You Completely Passed)” and “Ridin'Ridin'My Thumb to Mexico.”

In 1973, he released his debut work, Johnny Rodriguez, in 1973, and won first place on the Billboard Prime Nation album Tally.
