Ten tribute concerts to Jill Sobule were announced from late May to early September, most of which were from Los Angeles to the city of Northampton, Massachusetts under the banner of the Gillis Expo. All will celebrate the 66-year-old singer who died on May 1, who died on May 1.
The show begins on May 31 in Northampton, Massachusetts, and is hosted by Erin McKeown and features guest artists such as Marshall Crenshaw, Syd Straw and Madeleine Peyroux. By September 6, other cities picked up banners for Sobule, including Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Additionally, the announcement of these shows noted that other cities will attend concerts that have not been held yet, including Nashville, Minneapolis and New Orleans.
Los Angeles is paying tribute to Sobule. An initial contribution concert is set for McCabe's June 1 and is already sold out, with Dan Navarro hosting a lineup that includes Margaret Cho, Tom Morello, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Perla Batalla, Willie Aron, Amy Engelhard, Kay Hanley & Michelle Lewis, Lisa Loeb & David Poe, and Jesse Lynn Madera. Postelll leads, including Leland Sklar, the star of the recent documentary “Direct Family”. Then, exactly one month later, the second Los Angeles tribute will be held in a slightly larger location, Largo, hosted by Jim Turner. Cho will also appear in that, and will be joined by John Doe, Sara Watkins, Charlotte Caffey and Go Go's Jane Wiedlin, among other artists.
The New York show will be held at Joan’s Bar on July 20, which includes Joan Osborne, Richard Barone, Antigone, along with Julie Wolf, Tracy Bonham, Tracy Bonham, Julian Hornik, Matter Keating, Martha Redbone and Aaron Whitby, and hosts of the show, Marykate O’Neil.
See the full information for these shows below, as well as concerts in the Seattle, Evanston and San Francisco areas. Links to all tickets can be found here.
These shows will benefit it from a good life foundation that will be spread over ACLU “and other reasons why Jill cares about”.
For those who want to hear the Sobule songs from Ma's mouth, on June 6, there are two post-death releases, one of which is fresh and one of which is history. Her 1995 album of the same title – which included the landmark single “I Kissed A Girl” – released the first Red Wax of Rhino Records on Vinyl that day. On the same day, her own Pinko Records will release “F*CK Grade 7 – Original Actor Recording”, allowing fans to hear all the songs from the stage musical she often works on.
Announcements on the tribute show promised, more celebrations were also conducted, including the preparation and release of unreleased recordings, re-issues of unreleased LPS and documentaries. In addition to this summer’s tribute, her team hopes to have a similar All-Star game on her birthday on January 16 and beyond.
