Kino Lorber has obtained North America's distribution rights, Fatih Akin's adult drama Amrum, which has made its global premiere the official collection of this month's Cannes Film Competition. The film can be dramatized by Kino Lorber, which is released by digital, teaching and residential videos. Beta Cinema is handling world total sales.

Directed by Akin and directed by Akin and frequently collaborator Hark Bohm (“Fake in and out”, “Goodbye Berlin”), Amrum relies on Bohm’s personal experience to rise up on Amrum Island. The film starred Laura Tonke, Diane Kruger and first-time young actor Jasper Ole Billerbeck, is Akin’s first collaboration with Kruger since “fade”, which won the 2017 Cannes Actress Award.

The film was set to be held in Amrum Island in the spring of 1945. During the end of the conflict, 12-year-old Nanning (Billerbeck) came to hunt SEALs with courage, fishing at night and working hard near the farm to assist his mom in feeding the family. Regardless of the difficulties encountered, the charming, wind-swept life on the island actually looks like heaven. But when peace finally comes, it reveals a deeper risk: the enemy is much closer than he thought.

In his assessment chooseTomris Laffly describes the film as “poetic, elegant change” and “shaky and profound.” He added that it “provides the style of nearly extinct big-screen movies with regard to childhood innocence, loss and endurance.”

The deal for “Amrum” was negotiated by Kino Lorber Vice President Karoliina Dwyer and Beta Cinema CEO Dirk Schuerhoff.
