In the upcoming memoir Vice President Kamala Harris Amazing and frank criticism of the past President Joe BidenThe decision to pursue a second term, describing it as “reckless”, puts the future of the country in danger. Excerpts of her book, 107 dayspublished in Atlantic Wednesday (September 10, 2025) showed deep frustration within the administration, as questions about the 81-year-old president's ability ahead of the 2024 election.
The memoir details the growing period in the democracy community as the party responds to the aging incumbent. Harris wrote that the decision to escape was considered a private matter and was solely at the discretion of Joe and Jill Biden. “We all say, like a mantra, as if we were all hypnotized,” she said. Then, she challenged this general sentiment and said, “Is it grace or reckless? In retrospect, I think it's reckless.”

Harris explains that her view is that these bets are too high to decide to be “self” or “ambition” of an individual. She believes that this should be a collective consideration, not an individual consideration. The former vice president acknowledged her difficult position during that period, admitting she could not advise Biden not to run without “incredible self-service” or infidelity. “I'm in the worst position and can be said he should quit,” she wrote.
The book received the title from the subsequent cutoff of the presidential campaign and did not question Biden's intelligence or character. Instead, Harris defended him, portraying a man with deep faith and experience. However, she noted that at the age of 81, “Joe felt tired” and fatigue “expressed by physical and verbal falls.” She linked his performance to an exhaustive travel schedule in a critical debate in June 2024, but her loyalty to the country replaced any personal loyalty she felt.

Harris also articulated the internal dynamics of the Biden Harris administration, describing White House staff who felt she was marginalized and unwilling to defend her from the Republican attacks. She claimed that among some assistants, they believed that “if she shines, he will become dim.” Memoirs show that the government’s failure to make the most of her political strengths is a missed opportunity, especially given the growing public attention to Biden’s age. The book is scheduled to be released on September 23.
