Jodie Foster can make movies for years.

“I chose it,” she admitted. “I probably didn't focus on showing up just to show up. It actually had to talk to me.”

It was several hours ahead of the Cannes premiere of “ViePrivée”. After the rally of French filmmaker Rebecca Zlotowski, who wrote the script, Foster found that they shared a passion for character improvement and narrative. I've seen a lot of young actors and I'm not saying I'm jealous, but I don't think they just need to take action. They don't care if the movie is unhealthy. They don't care if the conversation is unhealthy. They don't care if they are grapes in the fruit of the loom advertisement. If I absolutely stopped acting, I wouldn't actually care. I actually want to be a boat for a story or a cinema. If I could do another thing, if I had been a writer, painter, or sculptor, that might be fine as well. But that is my ability.

You have directed 4 movies, along with “Little Man Tate” and “Live on Holidays”. Do you like guidance to appear?

I do want to guide, and despite this, it's hard to solve the problem from the bottom. I'm going to work on the fabric to make it long and the purpose is to make it mine. I love the flicks I do and they usually talk to my life. To me, they really feel like Auteur movies. If I can't do that, I don't actually need to do that.

Nicole Kidman recently revealed that she worked among 27 female administrators in the last eight years.

How did you react to this? Do you want the extra actors to use their influence to get alternatives to female administrators, maybe they won't think of it?

I hope so. I've seen the problem change a lot. Once I started showing up, one of the girls I once noticed was a makeup artist or script supervisor. Then, I started to see some feminine technicians. However, the ultimate bastion has always been the administrator. Once I was determined to guide, I was lucky. Those who made the choice knew me, so they didn’t consider the dangers of me as a first-time director. However, as an actor, earlier than my last three moves, I only made a movie with one female director. That's over 50 years.

As you mentioned, the last three moves you have developed – “Real Detective,” “NYAD,” now “ViePrivée” – directed by or co-directed by women. {a}At keenly aware of the choice?

What I'm very hard is that in the business that claims, my movies will be made by women, men or anything. Should it be an extra instinctive choice? You hope you are just interested in humans. I suggest that Jonathan Demme’s Silence to “The Lambs” is my favorite feminist director. As mentioned, I believe some kind of quota system is necessary to give first-time film producers a chance. You should start the approach early so that we all get the same choice.

In the last decade, America had a sense of gold, and it was the lads who made their choices—they turned a blind eye to their xenophobia, racism, and sexism, and suddenly woke up like, “Hey, why are there no ladies on our executive list?” After all, they were called public, but forced them to look at themselves and decide to change. Do you think it might eliminate the Trump administration's attack on companies that adopt the DEI initiative?

Yes, it may be over now. This is definitely a work through administration. We can see it in every little thing from academia to regulatory companies to leisure. Why did you decide not to shoot a cameo in “Free Friday”?

I used to be busy making this movie. But Jamie Lee Curtis is a very good partner to me. I took the shot and all of this stuff.

After winning the Golden Globe Award for “Real Detective”, you mentioned that “is essentially the second most satisfying in my career.” Why?

One thing happened in 60. There is a hormone that will be injected into your body and suddenly you think, “Oh, I don’t care.” It’s all about me being really passionate about informing stories about different people and making sounds that don’t sounds than not heard. So with “Mauritanians” I used to participate in that movie, so I could tell Tahar Rahim's story, not the story of my character. With “real detectives,” I needed to design half of mine so that it would serve the stories of Indigenous characters.
