The BBC has formally conducted an impartial investigation with long-time “Masterchef” host Gregg Wallace, marking his 20-year term in the flagship culinary rival sequence.
In a press release issued by the BBC following the findings of Lewis Silkin, Wallace's “return to 'MasterChef' is untenable” and that the company “has no plans to work with him in the future.” The choice is the choice after the BBC described “a fair amount of allegations of misconduct allegations spanning 19 years.”
A seven-month investigation by U.Ok, Lewis Silkin, examined allegations from 83 60-year-old moderators from 41 complainants. The investigative staff interviewed 78 witnesses and reviewed paperwork and unedited program videos during the same period, confirming 45 of the charges – just over half of them.
In response to the findings, almost all confirmed allegations (94%) related to habits that occurred between 2005 and 2018 were made after only one charge. The confirmed allegations mainly involve inappropriate sexual language and humor, mainly inappropriate inappropriate language and in smaller quantities in the case of undressing. In addition, an allegation of bad physical contact was confirmed.
Surveys show that Wallace contacted more than 2,500 contestants during his term from 2005 to 2024. The investigation also found 11 formal or leisure complaints in November or evidence of Wallace's habits during the 2005-2024 interval. The manufacturing company conducted a proper investigation in 2015 and the BBC intervened in 2017, “and then warned Mr. Wallace that it was necessary to change his habits.” The report was famous for Wallace “takes the warning steps” and actively worked to change the habits.
However, the investigation highlights systematic failures in early handling of complaints. The company acknowledged the agency’s failure when addressing the scheme earlier, noting: “Although the overall scope of these views has not been recognized within the relevant time, an alternative to addressing these habits was missed – each family is a manufacturing company working on “MasterChef” and the BBC.
